    Abstract

The UAE is strategically navigating its international relationships by balancing its longstanding ties with the U.S. and forging new alliances with BRICS states. While the U.S. remains a pivotal partner in terms of security, trade, and investment, the UAE is actively seeking to broaden its geopolitical and economic influence by deepening engagements with BRICS countries. This multi-alignment strategy allows the UAE to effectively navigate within the complex global geopolitical landscape, aiming to enhance its leverage, particularly within the Global South.
This study examines the multifaceted motivations behind the UAE's decision to join the BRICS intergovernmental organization, and focuses on economic, strategic, and geopolitical factors. In an era where states are increasingly seeking to diversify their international alliances and economic partnerships, the UAE’s shift towards BRICS signifies a notable geopolitical realignment. Utilizing a qualitative research approach, this research incorporates interviews with key policymakers and researchers. The findings reveal that the UAE is driven by a desire to enhance its global stature and secure a more diversified economic future. The decision to join BRICS is in line with the UAE's broader objectives of diversifying partnerships and playing a more active role in global governance, highlighting its emerging dynamic role on the world stage.
