Abstract

Disruptive technologies have the potential to negatively influence the future of the labor market throughout the world. The developments increase the chances of labor substitution and job destruction. While it remains difficult to predict the extent to which technological developments will affect the job market, the potential for new job opportunities for developers and users of technology is high. Technological adoption has the potential to cause shifts in the labor market and create demand for new skills. Moreover, the skills for the remaining jobs will not remain the same. The objective of the paper was to assess the changes that happened in the IT jobs and related skills focusing on United Arab Emirates (UAE) as it is considered the MENA region business hub. The study takes a wide perspective to establish the skill factors that will influence the future of IT jobs to ascertain how advances in technology will affect the IT job market. The research relied on open source data collected from public sources. The data was analyzed to help respond to the objectives of the study. The findings of the study revealed that the advances in technology presents unique transformation in the IT jobs and related skills. As well as highlighted the main skills that are crucial for IT job market.
