There is a recognized need to improve operational data management across multiple divisions of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), spanning both individual Emirate and federal levels of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Owing to a lack of communication or operational delays, incidents like passport or visa forgery, migrant smuggling, and illegitimate establishments could go unnoticed, potentially disrupting operations and compromising national security. Thus, to address this problem, the research question ‘What impact would the integration of data from the GDRFA divisions into a centralized digital clearinghouse have on the effectiveness and efficiency of their respective operations, and why?’ directs the investigation. The research approach adopted is qualitative, and it employs a narrative comparative case study. It uses open-ended questions as a data source, with interviews being conducted within on of the GDRFA divisions. The data will be analyzed to explore the viable benefits and implications and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of operations if a centralized operations data clearinghouse is implemented within the GDRFA. The results show that the integration of data from the GDRFA divisions into a centralized digital clearinghouse will have a positive impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of their respective operations because of the increased effectiveness through improved information accuracy, compliance with the authority’s standards, achievement of objectives set by stakeholders, and increased efficiency by reducing costs, manpower, and time for operations.
