This study provides a comprehensive techno-economic analysis of green hydrogen and ammonia in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. Along with the effort toward the transition toward a green economy, the region has proved its significant contribution and role in this sector through the implementation of many projects. In fact, the abundance of solar energy in the region has helped in obtaining a valuable role in the suitability sector. Integrating chemicals such as hydrogen and ammonia is essential to accelerate the transition process. Hence, producing them using renewable energy is a game changer. However, costs associated with their production are still very high. Thus, this work significantly focuses on optimizing their costs. Accordingly, a detailed technical assessment of the green ammonia production plant which includes three subsystems: green hydrogen subsystem, nitrogen production subsystem, and green ammonia synthesis loop was conducted. This step has highlighted all the available technologies for each subsystem and assisted based on different criteria. Followed up by using three software: System Advisor model (SAM), Aspen Hysys, and H2A model to provide an in-depth financial analysis. Key findings reveal that green ammonia and hydrogen can be produced at very competitive costs in the region.
