Inverter Based UWB LNA

Abstract

The objective of this thesis is to design an inverter based LNA with resistive feedback. This amplifer has 3 stages, each as an inverter with resistive feedback. There are no inductors used in the circuit. There is a current mirror used to bias the individual stages of the circuit. It is aimed to have a small signal gain of at least 20 dB, an NF no more than 7 dB, an s11 less than -10 dB, and a bandwidth of 3.1 - 10.6 GHz. The simulated results are as follows: a peak small signal gain of 30.5 dB, an s11 of less than -11.5 dB, a minimum NF of 7.76 dB and a bandwidth of 0.245 -16.4 GHz. In the post layout simulation, The simulated results are as follows: a peak small signal gain of 30.56 dB, an s11 of less than -11.46 dB, a minimum NF of 7.77 dB and a bandwidth of 0.245 -16.98 GHz. There is not much variation with respect to voltage, however, extreme temperatures affect its functionality. The LNA designed can be expected to have a very high FOM compared to other LNAs due to its low power consumption, small area, high bandwidth, and good s11.
