    Abstract

Innovation is fundamental for economic transformation, providing sustainable job opportunities, and increasing competitiveness. Since 1971, UAE has shown elevated movements in the field of innovation to enrich its social, economic, and environmental position. However, staying on the edge and competing in the field of innovation requires bold thinking and clear strategy to turn ideas into action. The objective of the thesis study is to clarify the concept of innovation from different approaches and measure the innovative performance in the UAE public and private sectors based on a unified framework. The methodology followed to collect data is a survey, and the survey design reflects the conducted framework and follows the international standards of survey design. The survey covers seven main sections: organization details, innovation scope, innovation process, technologies and tools, innovation investments and outcomes, human capital skills and capabilities, and innovation culture and awareness. The collected data were analyzed to recognize the performance and weaknesses that companies face to innovate in UAE. The results show that innovation in UAE is highly driven by the public sector. Finally, a set of recommendations were presented in the form of subjective and strategic initiatives including potential benchmarks and lessons learned.
