Building a qualified workforce: the case of Etihad Rail

Abstract

Security and safety management has received close attention in the last few years based on the various concerns revolving around setting up effective and efficient safety system (Kamin, 2006). Security and safety management in rail systems received close attention after a series of attempts on major systems in the past few years. These areas were identified as the primary targets by terrorist groups such as al Qaeda including others. Etihad Rail was established within a mandate to manage the development, construction and operation of the UAE’s national railway. The development and establishment of the rail was to link the various principle centers of population and industry of the UAE’s. It had also a vital part of forming an essential aspect of the planned GCC principal network (Abu Dhabi Vision 2030). The rail is amid to set the international standards with the state of the art network aimed at improving the ferrying of people and goods. It was aimed at opening new corridors and journey opportunities within the selected region. The development and establishment of this rail system projects aimed to vast and diverge the opportunities. The rail systems is aimed at adhering to the preceding guiding principles; Safety; connectivity and economic growth, efficiency and sustainability.
