Blockchain Solutions for Healthcare Product Recalls

Abstract

Healthcare product recall could be defined as an action of sold healthcare product; to notify consumers of its potential defectiveness. Communicating product recalls experiences several challenges, such as lack of global identification standards, lack of traceability framework and product pedigrees, lack of supporting technology, etc. The use of blockchain technology will further enable information visibility, data sharing, and encourage, trust among stakeholders in managing effective product recalls in health care supply chains. In this paper, using a blockchain technology in the healthcare product recall management is proposed by implementing an Ethereum smart contract using Remix IDE with the help of the Interplanetary File System (IPFS) technology. Blockchain technology would lay the foundation for an advanced future healthcare product recalls process. It would speed the healthcare product recall process with high quality and accuracy to save patients' lives.
