Abstract

This project explores the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for enhancing coastal and maritime environment monitoring. The integration of AI is essential to address threats such as rising sea levels, pollution, and extreme weather events that impact marine ecosystems and related industries. One of the most important problems is ships detection. Our study focuses on improving ship detection through object detection (OD) technologies. We identify that no single OD model excels universally, leading to our proposal of a meta-detector, ”Best of the N Detectors” (BofN), which uses a Detector Prediction Network (DPN) to predict the optimal detector for specific images. Evaluations on datasets such as SeaShips, Singapore Maritime, and ABOShips demonstrate significant performance improvements, validating our approach’s effectiveness in Predicting the best detector and enhancing maritime monitoring.
