A Holistic Optimization Model to Improve the Monetary Efficiency of the Energy Sector in the UAE from a Subsidy Saving Perspective

Abstract

This thesis will develop and test an optimization module within the framework of a holistic and integrated energy model under development. The optimization module will connect different aspects of the energy value chain, from natural resources to their end user consumption directly or through end products such as electricity or other form of petroleum by products. Different scenarios will be analyzed in this research such as; business as usual scenario, optimal scenario, efficiencies based scenario, demand scenario, capacity unavailability scenario, and emission scenario. The subsidy will be measured for each scenario as well. Finally, the best scenario that can minimize the total subsidy cost will be chosen as the best scenario that can present the energy mix of the country.
