Abstract

The ferroresonant behavior of a 275 kV electromagnetic voltage transformers, fed from a sinusoidal supply via circuit breaker grading capacitance, in a National Grid substation in England has been analyzed using nonlinear dynamical methods. Bifurcation diagrams representing system behavior are presented showing two possible types of operation, normal response and fundamental frequency ferroresonance, in line with practical site experience. A sensitivity analysis is also performed to demonstrate the sensitivity of the calculations to possible errors in the modelling of the transformer magnetization characteristics.
