Abstract

This paper describes the design of a direct control of a chemical plant based on variable structure output feedback system theory. The plant consists of a reactor followed by an elaborate separation system. The overall control strategy is to operate the plant at near optimum return on investment. This is to be accomplished through a multilayered hierarchical computer control. The design presented in this paper implements the lowest layer. Two control designs employing boundary layers are presented and examined.
