Abstract
In the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions, the utilization of renewable resources such as wind and solar power has gained prominence. However, the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources poses challenges for grid stability and energy management. One approach to addressing this challenge is through the production and storage of hydrogen using electrolyzers during periods of negative electricity prices, when excess renewable energy is available. This paper investigates the economic feasibility of hydrogen production through electrolyzers, considering both production and storage costs. By analyzing the interplay between negative electricity prices, electrolyzer efficiency, and selling cost of hydrogen, we aim to provide insights into the potential cost-effectiveness of utilizing surplus renewable energy for hydrogen production and storage. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of the role of hydrogen in the transition to a more sustainable energy future, while also highlighting the importance of considering storage costs in assessing the viability of such systems.
