    Abstract

Electro-sensitive iV,iV-methylenebisacrylamide [MBA] crosslinked networks of Gum ghatti and [Mm] were synthesized using potassium persulphate [KPS]-ascorbic acid [ABC] redox system. Different optimized reaction parameters for grafting were evaluated for time (90 min), temperature (50 °C), amount of solvent (10 mL), pH (7.0), initiator ratio (ABC: KPS) =1:1, [AAm] = 0.7746 mo I/Land [MBA] (0.0974 mol/L). Various parameters like time of current flow and voltage of the medium were studied to find out the effect of electrical stimulus on the deswelling properties of the candidate network. The maximum deswelling (64.73%) was exhibited at 70V in 10 min under the influence of DC electric field, whereas AC field stimulus exhibited maximum deswelling (62.267%) at 80V and 6 min. The synthesized networks were characterized using different techniques like FTIR, SEM, TGA/DTA/DTG and X-ray diffraction.
