    Abstract

Engineers Australia's advocacy to a federal parliamentary inquiry into skilled migration is successful with the inquiry picking up one of Engineers Australia's key recommendations. The inquiry was held by the Joint Standing Committee on Migration and its report was released. The Committee recommends that an indexed fee of $1000 be charged to each sponsor of a skilled temporary worker to fund scholarships for Australians in areas of existing long-term shortages which are predicted to continue. The report attributes the recommendation to Engineers Australia. It also includes several other recommendations which reflect Engineers Australia's views.
