title = "Six Sigma Approach for Reducing Needle Stick Injuries in the Healthcare Industry",
abstract = "Needlestick injuries have caused a harmful impact on the physical and emotional health of millions of healthcare workers over the past decades, leading to the transmission of occupational infectious diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that an average of 385,000 needle injuries happen every year among healthcare workers in hospitals globally. This study aims to use the Six Sigma approach by applying the DMAIC process to find the potential root causes, associated practices, and circumstances of related injuries. It proposes the proper policies and procedures to increase the awareness level and to reduce needle stick injuries in a way that improves healthcare safety. The study provided satisfactory results by meeting the settled goals. It could guide future research on solving problems of NSI injuries in worldwide hospitals and increasing theefficiency in performing tasks of employees.",
