    Abstract

Nuclear energy proves vital to society because of its use as an electricity source for various activities. However, the plants that generate nuclear energy are susceptible to many risks, including high ionization doses that can lead to body damage, sicknesses, or deaths, while lower nuclear energy doses aggravate cataracts, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. The severity of these conditions provides the impetus for risk-informed target-set analysis of nuclear power plants to reduce or prevent vulnerability to any menace. The process requires mitigation plans to ensure emergency preparedness and risk assessment, which are indispensable to promoting safety, security, and safeguards (3S) synergies. The research methods involved analysis of the extant literature sources in this academic milieu to identify information about NPP protection. Since most nuclear plants are vulnerable to risks, there is a need for a risk- informed target analysis to define locations and equipment requiring protection against adverse actions to ensure the smooth operations of these plants. Results of the analysis highlight the need to provide physical and computerized protections against nuclear plant vulnerabilities to warrant effective procedures in the nuclear industry.
