Abstract

When mercury high-pressure lamps are operated at high frequencies, are instabilities are occasionally observed and can destroy the discharge tube. This phenomenon attributed to the excitation of standing pressure waves inside the discharge vessel is called "acoustic resonance". The present work is concerned with the comprehension of this complex phenomenon.
