Abstract
Presently, distribution systems are moving away from the traditional paradigm of a passive, relatively unresponsive network to one where microprocessor enabled equipment and information and communication technologies offer myriad opportunities for advanced applications. However, this transition requires extensive support from research and development activities, in the form of modeling and simulation, controlled testing, and field demonstrations. This paper presents IREQ's 25 kV distribution test line that is used by the utility and its external partners to validate advanced distribution system concepts. The existing infrastructure is presented and various application examples of the test line are discussed together with their results. The expanding role of this research tool in supporting the development of advanced distribution system applications is addressed.
