Abstract
This paper proposes a probabilistic formulation for the problem of shunt capacitor placement in distribution networks. The proposed formulation takes into consideration the stochastic nature of renewable energy resources. Genetic Algorithm has been used to solve the formulated optimization problem. Simulation studies have been carried out to validate the proposed approach. The simulation results show that the proposed probabilistic formulation will facilitate a proper capacitors placement in future distribution networks with high penetration of distributed generation and renewable energy resources.
