Abstract

The paper presents a new problem formulation for coordinating microprocessor based directional overcurrent relays in an interconnected power system. Unlike previous formulations, the proposed problem formulation takes into account the discrete nature of pickup current settings and the available time-current characteristics of the relay. The coordination problem is formulated as a Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problem and is solved using the DICOPT solver in GAMS.
