New approach for predictive control based on fuzzy decision-making and its application to thermal process

Abstract

Model predictive control is an available method for controlling large-lag thermal process, but conventional constrained predictive controls was not widely used because of the singleness of control goal and the complexity of its optimization procedure. With the help of fuzzy set theory, this paper proposes a constrained predictive control algorithm based on fuzzy decision making method. As compared to the other traditional constrained predictive control, the algorithm replaces conventional objective function with the appropriate fuzzy index function. As a result, it is easy to integrate the constrains into the fuzzy index function, which can greatly reduce complexity of the optimization. Moreover, this paper proves that the conventional predictive control is a particular case of the algorithm proposed in this paper. So the algorithm extends the function of the traditional constrained predictive control. Finally, a simulation is proceeded and the results show that is con serve for controlling the nonlinear and large-lag thermal process and the performance of the new algorithm is better than that of the conventional predictive control strategy.
