    Abstract

This study presents a numerical study of nanoparticle aggregation in Al2O3/water nanofluid under quiescent condition. The geometric population balance model (GPBM) is employed. The model is verified and validated against experimental data of Al2O3 nanoparticle aggregation in the existing literature. Then, two different scenarios with (1) uniform and (2) non-uniform initial nanoparticle size distribution are considered. The impacts of initial nanoparticle size, nanoparticle volume fraction and temperature on the aggregation process are assessed.
