Abstract

Dr Taguchi is well known for developing a methodology for solving process and product quality control problems using experimental design techniques. During the past 15 years, European and American manufacturers have reported a number of successful applications of the Taguchi method (TM) for reducing process variability, improving product reliability, reducing manufacturing costs and improving process yield. The problem with the current state of the art in advanced statistical techniques, such as TMs and design of experiments, is that many commercial software products concentrate mainly on the statistical analysis and provide very little guidance for the interpretation of the results obtained from that analysis.
