Abstract

An iterative high-resolution Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) algorithm is proposed for applications of multipath direction finding in W-CDMA Space-Time receiver structures, employing adaptive antenna arrays. The algorithm iteratively removes detected signals from the received data, then searches the residue spatial spectrum for further signals. Each stage of the algorithm is based on the robust Conventional Beamformer. The algorithm makes no assumptions about signal correlation, hence does not require any computationally expensive eigen decomposition or spatial smoothing in coherent multipath scenarios. Results are presented illustrating high-resolution at significantly lower Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) levels than those obtained by classical DOA algorithms such as Multiple Signal Classification and Minimum Variance Methods.
