Abstract

This chapter focuses on a separation method for various bioactive components via flotation-assisted liquid biphasic systems (LBSs). Flotation-assisted LBSs are a combination of flotation and LBS to efficiently extract biomolecules with higher yield than the conventional aqueous two-phase systems. This chapter discusses the basic working principle and important parameters that govern the phase separation and biomolecule transfer from the bottom to the top aqueous-rich phase. The chapter also provides a highlight on the applications of flotation-assisted LBSs and a comparison with other classical bioseparation techniques.
