    Abstract

Water desalination is a potential topic for researchers worldwide, especially in countries with scarcity in natural freshwater resources and lack potable water like the UAE and the Gulf region, specifically in communities in remote or rural areas. The water desalination process has an excellent way of implementing it for domestic house usages, which is called solar still desalination. The main problem of this implementation is that its daily productivity is relatively low. A mathematical model representing the system output is utilized to design the system geometry for the desired output. An innovative idea concerning ultrasonic technology is added to the solar still device to investigate the possibility of enhancing the productivity and performance of the solar still. A comparison is made between the conventional and ultrasonic solar still where ultrasonic transducers are investigated as an active subsystem. The experimental results showed that the newly investigated configuration of the system that is equipped with ultrasonic transducers namely, (CSS) has increased the average daily freshwater output by 7.5 % which is a considerable change. The collected data was analyzed and discussed whilst suggesting numerous recommendations that could produce better results and optimization procedure.
