Abstract

During the last two decades, Nonlinear Energy Sinks (NESs) are experiencing tremendous developments in order to help in avoiding destructive levels of vibration amplitudes in dynamical structures. The essential nonlinear property of the NESs alters the global dynamics of the structure and therefore enable energy transfer from low-frequency modes to the NES itself and to the higher frequency modes of the structure. The ability of Type I NES to redistribute induced energy within the modes of a 9 degree-of freedom real physical structure for a range of initial impulsive excitations is investigated here.
