Abstract

A digital pulsed modulation for high efficiency and linearity, switched-mode PA is proposed. Based on Digital Outphasing Exponential Modulation, the paper shows the underlying concept and simulations that predict a faster decaying spectrum, when compared to PWM Outphasing, and a power spectrum that fulfills the spectral emission mask even for 64QAM LTE standards. By using a nonlinear model of a measured Class D-1, 30dBm, CMOS power amplifier, the paper shows that the EVM and SEM requirements for LTE standards are fulfilled.
