Abstract

In pavement analyses the tire-pavement contact zone is most of the times assumed to be circular and to have a uniform contact pressure. In reality the contact pressure distribution is non-uniform, which causes higher strain distributions than with the uniform pressure assumption. To simulate the contact stress distribution between the tire and the road surface a proper contact model is needed. In this contribution a general 3D contact algorithm implemented in the 3D finite element code CAPA-3D will be presented. Finally an example will demonstrate the previously mentioned implementation.
