Abstract

Fifteen patients with documented recurrent or persistent endometriosis were treated with 800 mg of danazol per day for 6 months. All of them were infertile and following therapy, 3 patients conceived (20%), but only one of them resulted in a living child. Danazol gave complete relief of symptoms in 9 of 10 patients with recurrent dysmenorrhea. One woman developed pain 6 months after completion of therapy. Since pregnancy rates following a second operation for endometriosis are discouraging, this non-operative form of treatment warrants additional trials.
