Abstract
A CubeSat is a miniaturized satellite that consists of one or more cubic units each with an edge length of 10cm. Due to the compact size of the CubeSat, the heat generated inside is also confined to a limited space, making its thermal management challenging. The Phase Change Material (PCM) heat sink is a promising solution for thermal management in CubeSats. The objective of study is to analyze computationally the operation of a gallium PCM heat sink in a CubeSat exposed to thermal loading in excess of normal operation. The results show that the bottleneck of the investigated PCM heat sink is the radiative heat dissipation at the external surface of heat sink.
