Control of Supply Voltage Power Quality Issues using DVR through Forward-Backward LMS

Abstract

The Dynamic Voltage Restorer has been implemented with Forward-backward least mean square control algorithm for mitigating the disturbances exist in the supply due to various reasons. The control algorithm has the advantage of reduced misadjustment by half when compared to that of forward least mean square. This is due to the average of forward and backward errors for weight adaptation. The advantage of the implemented control algorithm is that, when the order of the enhancer is more than the number of sinusoids to be enhanced, the misadjustment of the forward-backward least mean square is approximately half that of the least mean square algorithm. The topology of the Dynamic Voltage Restorer used here is of a six-leg voltage source converter based self-supported capacitor. The Dynamic Voltage Restorer by means of proposed control algorithm is implemented in order to have compensation in several disturbances of the supply. Conventional Zeigler-Nichols and optimization-based Firefly algorithm have been implemented for PI tuning to reduce tuning time and getting idea about the tuned value of PI gains. The validation of the control algorithm was achieved by MATLAB/ Simulink and experimental performance.
