    Abstract

Cancer is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Due to the shortcomings of currently used treatment approaches for cancer, there is a need for potent and noninvasive diagnostic and treatment procedures. Phototheranostics exhibits strong potential in clinical application and has been recognized as one of the best cancer treatments nowadays. The application of organic nanomaterials in phototheranostics enhances the effectiveness of cancer diagnostics and treatment. Here in this chapter, we will discuss the recent trends as an overview of organic nanomaterials including their composites for cancer phototheranostics. In addition to this, the mechanism of phototherapy and diagnostic techniques in light of the Jablonski diagram is discussed. The role of photosensitizers (PSs) and wavelength windows, penetration power, and laser types are also highlighted. In the end, we have summarized the chapter content along with future perspectives.
