Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia and Fertility

To the Editor: The fertility rate among female patients with the salt-losing form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia was reviewed by Mulaikal et al. (Jan. 22, 1987, issue).¹ Only one patient with salt-losing congenital adrenal hyperplasia was found to have conceived, and this pregnancy was terminated by an abortion. However, other pediatric endocrinologists, including us, have observed pregnancies in such patients. In 1983, Andersen et al.² described a 20-year-old woman with salt-losing congenital adrenal hyperplasia who had an uncomplicated pregnancy, giving birth to a healthy, nonvirilized baby girl by cesarean section.
