Abstract

We present an extension of the conjugate real ray tracing (C-RRT) method to investigate the slowness vectors in viscoelastic anisotropic media, especially computing the real and imaginary components, the homogeneous and inhomogeneous components of the slowness vectors of three wave modes (qP, qSV, qSH). We demonstrate that once the complex moduli of the medium are given these components of the slowness vectors can be calculated by the C-RRT method. We give examples to display the fractions of the imaginary and inhomogeneous components, which play crucial roles in the attenuation of wave propagation.
