Abstract

In this contribution, a contact interface element based on the earlier work of Swoboda is presented. A no-overlap condition, friction, bonding and de-bonding are implemented by the Lagrange multiplier method with contact stresses as multipliers. Several implementation issues will be addressed. Finally to demonstrate the capabilities of the contact element a 4-point shear test simulation is shown. Copyright ASCE 2006.
