Abstract

A slotted microstrip patch antenna for 5G applications is presented in this paper. The proposed design addresses the intrinsic narrow bandwidth of patch antennas by introducing disconnected H slots to broaden the bandwidth. The slots introduce two extra resonances to broaden the bandwidth of the design. An impedance bandwidth of 24.31 - 31.11GHz was achieved to cover the entire 28GHz 5G band. A peak gain of 11.2dBi was also achieved with a minimum beamwidth of 34° over the entire bandwidth.
