Abstract

In this chapter, we review and discuss the influence of genetic polymorphisms on heart rate variability (HRV). One of the first studies that investigated the heritability of HRV patterns compared age-matched twins. The successful correlation found between genetic markers and HRV opened the possibility of identifying further genetic risks for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) by studying other genetic polymorphisms that may be associated with HRV.
