Assessing Relations of Lean Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and Sustainability in the Manufacturing Environment

    Abstract

    The review of literature encompasses two parts: a review on LM and sustainability; and a review on Industry 4.0 and Sustainability. This chapter encapsulates the relationship between LM practices and sustainability dimensions. It outlines the relation between Industry 4.0 practices and sustainability dimensions. An essential purpose of researchers is to consider the methodological framework and the most appropriate pathway for the analysis. The general model was developed to evaluate the relationship between LM and sustainability and Industry 4.0 and sustainability. The collected data and analysis were performed by utilizing “IBM SPSS Statistics 20 Software”. The study discussed the evaluation of the relationship between LM and sustainability indicators and between Industry 4.0 and sustainability indicators. The evaluation has been performed based on the data collected from various automotive component manufacturing organizations located in India. Nevertheless, the adaptation of the industry 4.0 approach also has a significant positive relationship with economic and environmental sustainability.
