    Abstract

This paper presents a varying inductor method based on a semiconductor switching circuit and inductance control scheme. The proposed adaptive active inductor is applied for the grid-side filter of a motor drive. It enables more robust operation and maintains low grid current THD under a wide range of operation conditions by adaptively control the equivalent inductance, thus improving power quality. The theoretical analyses, reliability-oriented prototype design, and performance comparison with passive inductors solution are presented.
