Abstract

This chapter aims to present and discuss a prospective study on technological systems for people with cognitive disabilities. It will provide an analysis of technological solutions for care of dementia illness, and of intelligent systems of assistance for improving quality of life in a preferred living environment. A deep analysis of the current state of the art will be presented. From the analysis of this prospective study, emerging and flexible solutions to assess the progression of signs and symptoms related to the physical and mental health of the patient are presented as novel approaches for earlier detection of dementia diseases. The intention is to contribute with an overview of information and communication technologies (ICT) solutions for better prediction, prevention, and support through long-term trend analysis of basic daily behavioral and physiological data, building on unobtrusive sensing and advanced reasoning with humans in the loop.
