Abstract

The causes of recurrent early fetal wastage are largely unknown but have been associated with both uterine malformation and unbalanced chromosomal rearrangements. It is estimated that parental translocations, reciprocal or Robertsonian, account for as many as 5% of all recognized early spontaneous abortions. To date, very few chromosomal inversions have been described in these reports. We recently detected a small paracentric inversion in two generations of a family experiencing multiple spontaneous abortions, 46,XX,inv(7)(p15q22). Interpretation of this finding is complicated by a uterine malformation in the proband.
