Abstract
This paper proposes a novel stopping criterion for turbo decoding. The new sign variations (SV) criterion calculates the difference of sign values between the extrinsic information of two consecutive iterations. Unlike the methods used so far, it requires no extra data storage. Simulations comparing the new technique with other well-known stopping criteria show that the proposed SV scheme achieves similar performance in terms of BER, while requiring less iterations and lower complexity.
