Abstract
A model for drying solids in a batch fluidized bed is proposed assuming that the bed may be divided into a solids phase, an interstitial gas phase, and a bubble phase with mass and heat transfer between the phases. The model comprehensively considers the bubble size, the bubble rise velocity, and the bubble volume fraction and covers constant drying rate and falling drying rate periods. The predictions using the model are compared with the experimental data obtained in the present study covering a wide range in experimental conditions and the data reported in literature.
